About Health Revenue Intelligence 40.76°N 111.89°W · Salt Lake City, Utah

Built by behavioral-health operators.
Modernized for complex revenue cycles.

Our team has a long history in behavioral-health billing, authorization, claim management, appeals, and revenue recovery — work built under the Axis IRG name, carried forward as Health Revenue Intelligence. Today we pair that experience with sharper operating controls, payer intelligence, and reporting you can measure against.

Discipline

Fix the cause once

Health Revenue Intelligence is a full-service behavioral-health billing and revenue-cycle management company. We run the day-to-day billing while payer intelligence and claim prioritization surface the denials and underpayments worth chasing first. HRI serves RTC, detox, PHP, IOP and specialized behavioral-health providers.

Leadership

Meet Chris and Pete.

HRI is led by partners with deep behavioral-health operations and revenue-cycle experience — the kind that comes from running programs, leading teams, and recovering revenue first-hand.

Christopher Ryan

Christopher Ryan

Partner · Revenue Intelligence Systems

Chris spent more than 15 years running behavioral-health programs and revenue operations before building Health Revenue Intelligence. He's led operational turnarounds that recovered six figures and sharply cut uncollected revenue at a high-volume ABA center, overseen administration for programs generating millions in annual revenue, and negotiated five payer network agreements that added millions a year. At Health Revenue Intelligence he built the operating model itself: the payer intelligence, the Fix & Revenue Queue logic, and the Microsoft + AI workflow architecture the company runs on.

Partner · Operations & Provider Relationships

Pete has worked every side of the behavioral-health revenue equation since 2005: first as a health and life insurance broker, then in operations at a startup treatment center he helped establish from the ground up. In 2014 he co-founded the revenue cycle firm that became HRI, and for the past twelve years he has billed and recovered claims across detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient care, working in depth with Medicaid and its managed-care organizations, Medicare, commercial carriers, and other state and federal plans. He has negotiated single-case agreements at contracted day rates, stood up payer enrollments and electronic claim lanes from scratch, turned mass rejections into paid-in-full claims, and walked facilities through dozens of payer clawback and recoupment demands. Facilities bring him their hardest payer problems because he knows the requirements insurers enforce, and the pitfalls facilities hit trying to meet them.

Why we exist

Most billing companies treat a denial as a reason to resubmit. We treat it as a question: what went wrong, and how do we make sure it doesn't happen again? That difference — root cause over reflex — is the whole company.

Behavioral health and substance use disorder billing is its own discipline: levels of care, medical-necessity reviews, parity law, carve-outs, and payer behavior that changes without notice. We built this practice around that reality rather than around generic medical billing.

The senior people stay on your account — the same partners making the decisions, talking to you, and answering for the results. Structured reporting keeps the whole cycle in one line of sight: authorization, claims, payment, denial, payer-level activity.

Technology carries the load underneath — documented workflows, controlled automation, and payer intelligence keep the work consistent and prioritized. A person at HRI still makes every call.

Years of Combined Experience

Chris and Pete cover the whole picture — running behavioral-health programs, handling providers and payers, and building the systems that recover the money.

Published Guides & Field Answers

Publishing since 2013 on the work itself: RTC, PHP, and IOP billing, authorization, claim construction, payer variation, denials, reimbursement. It all sits in one library, every entry labeled for how far to trust it today — and the guides that still matter get reviewed and updated.

One team with yours

We work like an extension of your front office.

Not a vendor you hand off to and chase. A partner that sits beside your team, shares your numbers, and owns the outcome with you.

What we stand on

Principles, not slogans.

Behavioral health first

Billing built around how treatment programs run.

/02

Root cause, always

Fix the reason a claim failed, not just the claim.

Full transparency

You see the numbers we see, whenever you want.

/04

Provider-first

We make your team's job easier.
